Privacy Policy
Last updated: 20 August 2026.
This policy explains what happens to information when you use lifecovercalc.com. It is written to be read, not to be survived.
The short version
The numbers you type into the calculator never leave your browser. Your age, income, mortgage balance, debts, savings and children are processed by JavaScript running on your own device. They are not transmitted to us, not stored on a server, and not shared with anyone. There is no account to create, no form to submit, and no database of user figures — because there is no server-side processing at all. Close the tab and the figures are gone.
What we do receive is the ordinary, aggregate information any website receives, plus data collected by the third-party services described below.
What we collect directly
Nothing you type. As above.
Standard server logs. Our hosting provider records requests to the site — IP address, browser user agent, the page requested, and a timestamp. This is a normal function of a web server and is used to keep the site running and to diagnose faults. We do not use these logs to identify individuals.
Cookies and similar technologies
This site itself does not set cookies for its own purposes. It does not use cookies to remember your calculator inputs — the market you are viewing is determined by the URL, not by a stored preference.
Cookies on this site come from the third-party services below. In the UK, the EEA and Switzerland none of them are set until you say so — the section "Your consent choices" further down explains how that works.
Advertising
This site is funded by advertising and displays ads served by Google AdSense.
- Google, as a third-party vendor, uses cookies to serve ads on this site.
- Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and other sites on the internet.
- You may opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google's Ads Settings.
- Third-party vendors and ad networks may also serve ads on this site and use cookies to do so. You can opt out of many of these at aboutads.info/choices and youronlinechoices.eu.
- Google's own explanation of how it uses data from sites that use its services is published at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.
Advertisers do not receive the figures you enter into the calculator, because those figures never leave your browser.
Analytics
We use Google Analytics, loaded through Google Tag Manager, to understand which pages are read and how people arrive at the site. It sets cookies and collects information such as pages viewed, approximate location derived from IP address, device type and referring site. We use it in aggregate — to decide which guides to write next, not to profile individuals.
Google's privacy policy is at policies.google.com/privacy.
You can prevent Google Analytics from collecting data by installing the browser opt-out add-on, or by blocking the scripts with a content blocker. The calculator works perfectly well with scripts blocked.
Your consent choices
If you are in the UK, the European Economic Area or Switzerland, advertising and analytics storage is switched off before any tag runs. That is not a promise about what happens once you have been asked — it is the state the page loads in. No advertising or analytics cookie is set, and no advertising identifier is read, unless and until you consent.
Consent is requested through a consent management platform certified by Google under the IAB Transparency and Consent Framework. Your answer is recorded and applied immediately, and you can change or withdraw it at any time from the Privacy settings link in the footer. Withdrawing is deliberately no harder than giving it.
A partial answer is honoured as given: where you allow some purposes and decline others, Google is told which, and ads are served non-personalised for the purposes you declined.
Outside those regions the position is the other way round. Consent is not a legal precondition for setting these cookies, so advertising and analytics run by default and you opt out rather than in — through Google's Ads Settings, the industry links under "Advertising" above, or a content blocker.
Share buttons
The share buttons on our pages are plain links, not the official widgets those networks provide. Facebook's, X's and Pinterest's own share buttons load code from those companies and can identify visitors before anyone clicks anything. We deliberately do not use them.
Our buttons make no request to any social network while you read. Only if you click one does your browser go to that network, at which point that network's own privacy policy governs what happens next.
Fonts
The site loads typefaces from Google Fonts. Requesting a font transmits your IP address and user agent to Google's servers, as any request to any server does.
Legal basis and your rights
If you are in the UK, the European Economic Area, Norway or Switzerland, the UK GDPR and the EU GDPR apply to you.
- For server logs, our lawful basis is legitimate interest — operating and securing the site.
- For advertising and analytics cookies, the lawful basis is consent, collected as described under "Your consent choices" above. Until it is given, those cookies are not set — and you can withdraw it as easily as you gave it.
You have the right to access, correct, delete, or restrict processing of your personal data, to object to processing, and to lodge a complaint with your national supervisory authority. In practice we hold almost nothing about you: there are no accounts and no stored calculator data, so in most cases the only records that exist are transient server logs.
If you are in California, you have rights under the CCPA/CPRA including the right to know what personal information is collected and the right to opt out of its sale or sharing. We do not sell personal information. Advertising personalisation may constitute "sharing" under that law, and you may opt out through Google's Ads Settings above.
To exercise any right, email hello@lifecovercalc.com.
Children
This site is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 16.
Data retention
We retain no user-submitted data because we collect none. Server logs are retained by our hosting provider under their own retention schedule, typically a matter of weeks.
External links
Guides on this site link to external sources — regulators, government bodies and reference material. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of sites we link to.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes materially, the "last updated" date above changes with it. Continued use of the site after a change means you accept the revised policy.
